The Stars Are Priced on the Division They Have to Come Through, Not on Last Season's 112 Points
Dallas Stars Stanley Cup odds price the Stars as a contender that is not the favorite, and the market rests on the road a Central Division club has to travel rather than on the Stars' own record: Dallas finished third in the league in 2025-26 and went out in the first round, and both the club that finished above it, Colorado, and the club that eliminated it, Minnesota, play in its own division. The Stars play their home games at American Airlines Center in Dallas, and the board settles on the 2026-27 Stanley Cup champion, crowned in June 2027. The live board above carries the current price.
What the Stars' Stanley Cup price rests on
Start with last season, because the price still carries it. The NHL's final 2025-26 standings have Dallas at 50-20-12 and 112 points, second in the Central and third in the league, behind a Colorado team that won the Presidents' Trophy with 121 points. That record bought a first-round series against Minnesota, the third-place club in the same division, and Minnesota won it four games to two. Colorado beat Minnesota in the second round and lost the Western final to Vegas, and Carolina beat Vegas four games to two for the Cup.
So the Stars enter 2026-27 as one of the strongest regular-season teams in the West with a short spring behind them, and the price treats them that way: good enough to win, not the most likely to. As of October 29, 2026, the best price on Dallas winning the Stanley Cup was 6%, on both Kalshi and Polymarket, which treats a Stars title as roughly a one-in-seventeen outcome. That put them behind Carolina at 11% on Kalshi, Edmonton and Colorado at 10% on Kalshi, Florida at 8% on Polymarket and Vegas at 7% on Kalshi, and level with Tampa Bay and New Jersey.
The division is the structural read. Colorado, the team that topped the league last season, is the Central club priced highest, at 10% on Kalshi on October 29, 2026; Minnesota, which knocked Dallas out, was at 5% on Polymarket the same day, with Kalshi at 8%. Of the three Central clubs the market rates highest, the other two are the one that finished nine points above Dallas and the one that ended its season. A price of 6% is what a club looks like when the board believes in the roster and discounts the division it has to come through.
The Stars' start to 2026-27
The season is twelve games old for Dallas, and the start has been uneven but sound underneath. The Stars opened with a 4-0 home loss to St. Louis and a 2-1 loss at Nashville, then won seven of their next nine decisions, including a shootout win at Colorado on October 14 and overtime wins over Boston and Winnipeg, before a 5-1 home loss to New Jersey on October 27, 2026. The NHL standings on October 29, 2026 had them at 7-4-1 with 15 points, third in the Central behind Minnesota at 20 and Utah at 16, and sixth in the Western Conference.
Two numbers under that record are stronger than the record itself. Dallas had allowed 25 goals in 12 games, the fewest in the West, and it has played fewer games than every club above it: Minnesota has played 14 and Utah 13. Jake Oettinger had appeared in nine of the twelve, with six wins, a .929 save percentage and a 1.43 goals-against average in the NHL's club statistics. Mikko Rantanen led the team with 14 points, six goals and eight assists, and Jason Robertson had 13.
The season is also longer than usual: the schedule runs 84 games, the first 84-game season since 1993-94, and Dallas has 72 left before its last regular-season game on April 10, 2027. Twenty-two of those 72 are against Central Division opponents, which is where the playoff seeding the price depends on will be settled.
The case against the Stars' Stanley Cup read
The strongest case against the read is that the price has not been reading this season at all. Polymarket's Dallas contract fell from 11.5% on June 15, 2026, just after the board opened, to 9% on July 1 and 5.5% on July 15, and it has printed 5.5% on every daily reading since, through the first month of the season, a 7-4-1 start and the fewest goals allowed in the conference. A contract that sat still through all of that is not weighing the Stars' play; it is weighing last spring's first-round exit. A reader who holds this view says a club that was third in the league last season, has its starting goaltender at a .929 save percentage and games in hand on the clubs above it is priced on memory, and that the number will move once traders start paying attention.
The answer from the other side is that twelve games are a small sample in an 84-game season, that Colorado's 121 points last season were nine more than Dallas managed, and that the bracket still runs through the Central. On Kalshi, where the Stars contract has traded about 197,000 contracts, the price matched Polymarket's on October 29, 2026.
What changes the Stars' Stanley Cup read
The read is wrong if the Stars separate from Colorado and Minnesota in the standings and the price does not move with them, or if the first-round exit turns out to have been the real measure of the club. The dated tests:
• Montreal at Dallas, October 29, 2026, and Columbus at Dallas, October 31, 2026: two home games ahead of a two-game set at Vegas, last season's Western champion, on November 17 and 19, 2026.
• Florida at Dallas, November 15, 2026: one of the clubs priced above the Stars, at American Airlines Center.
• The Central race through the winter: 22 division games remain, and finishing ahead of Colorado and Minnesota changes who Dallas meets in the first round.
• Oettinger's workload: a goaltender carrying a 1.43 goals-against average through nine starts is the single player the price leans on most; an injury would show up in it at once.
• The playoffs, April 2027: once the bracket is set, the price becomes a series-by-series question.
When the Stars' Stanley Cup market resolves
The contract resolves on the champion of the 2026-27 NHL season, decided by the Stanley Cup Final in June 2027. Kalshi's KXNHL-27 event lists the Stars contract, trading since June 15, 2026, which pays Yes if the Dallas Stars win the 2026-27 Stanley Cup Finals; Kalshi expects settlement on July 1, 2027. Polymarket's NHL: 2027 Champion event resolves Yes for the club the NHL declares champion and resolves a club to No as soon as it can no longer win, for example once it is eliminated; if more than one club is declared champion it resolves in favor of the name that comes first alphabetically, and if the season is cancelled, postponed past June 30, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time or produces no champion in that window, it resolves to Other. Official NHL information is the resolution source, with a consensus of credible reporting as backup.
