The 2027 West Is Priced as a Spurs-Thunder Rematch, With Houston and Dallas as Outsiders
Texas NBA Western Conference odds for 2027 rest on a rematch. The market treats the West as a two-club conference, the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder priced level and everyone else far behind, which means Texas's hopes of a conference champion ride almost entirely on the Spurs, who play their home games at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. Houston's Rockets, at the Toyota Center, and Dallas's Mavericks, at the American Airlines Center, are the state's other two outcomes on the 15-club board, and the live board above carries their current prices.
What the Texas Western Conference price is saying
The conference contract strips the Eastern clubs out of the question, so the price is a direct read on one matchup. The Spurs beat the Thunder in seven games in the 2026 Western Conference finals, winning Game 7 in Oklahoma City 111-103 on May 30, 2026, after Oklahoma City had finished the regular season 64-18, two games ahead of San Antonio's 62-20. As of October 16, 2026, the best price on the Spurs winning the 2027 West was Kalshi's 33%, with Polymarket at 35%, while both venues had the Thunder at 34%. What the price is saying is that the series San Antonio won did not settle which of the two is better; the market has called the rematch a coin flip and priced every other club in the conference as a long shot.
The rest of the conference is thinly spread. On October 16, 2026 the next names were Minnesota at 11% on Polymarket, Denver at 6% on Kalshi and the Los Angeles Lakers at 6% on Polymarket, which means the market sees no third club close enough to make the West a three-way race. For a Texas reader the consequence is concentration: the Spurs carry roughly a one-in-three chance of a West title by themselves, and Houston and Dallas each trade in single digits.
The board behind those numbers is deep on one venue and shallow on the other. Kalshi had about 945,000 contracts traded across the 15 clubs as of October 16, 2026, against about $56.1K on Polymarket. Kalshi listed the conference contracts on June 16, 2026, three days after the Finals ended, so every price on it was set after San Antonio's run was complete.
San Antonio's Western Conference price
The Spurs' case is the 2026 postseason. They beat Portland in five games, Minnesota in six and Oklahoma City in seven, winning Game 6 at home 118-91 on May 28 before the road win in Game 7, then lost the NBA Finals to the New York Knicks in five games, the last of them 94-90 in San Antonio on June 13, 2026. The roster ESPN listed on October 17, 2026 still carries Victor Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper and Devin Vassell, with Mitch Johnson as head coach, and lists Tobias Harris as day-to-day and Jayden Quaintance as out.
The preseason told the market little. San Antonio lost its first three exhibitions, to Atlanta on October 8, at Phoenix on October 10 and at Utah on October 12, then beat Phoenix and closed with a 126-97 win over Sacramento on October 16, 2026, the last preseason game ESPN listed for the club. Kalshi's 33% on the Spurs on October 16, 2026 sits a point under its Thunder price, which says traders read a 2-3 exhibition run as noise rather than as a reason to move the conference champion of five months ago.
The regular season opens with the rematch. Oklahoma City visits the Frost Bank Center on October 20, 2026, and ESPN's schedule lists two more meetings, both in Oklahoma City, on February 11 and March 14, 2027. The Spurs also play the first Texas game of the season against Houston on October 23 at the Moody Center in Austin, one of their home dates moved there, and visit Dallas on October 24.
Houston's Western Conference price
The Rockets finished 52-30 in 2025-26, fifth in the West, and lost their first-round series to the Lakers in six games, closing with a 98-78 home defeat on May 1, 2026. The roster ESPN listed on October 17, 2026 carries Kevin Durant, Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, Fred VanVleet and Jabari Smith Jr., with Ime Udoka as head coach and Steven Adams listed as day-to-day. Both venues had Houston at 4% on October 16, 2026, which prices a 52-win team as a club that needs three series wins after failing to get one last spring.
Houston is the Texas price that has moved. Polymarket's Rockets contract traded at 1.6% on September 16, 2026 and at 4.5% on October 12, 2026, a period in which the club's preseason included a split of two games with Dallas at the Venetian Arena on October 9 and October 11 and a 116-89 home win over Oklahoma City on October 15, 2026. The move is small in points and large in proportion, and it says the market has started to treat Houston as the second Texas contender rather than as an afterthought. The Rockets open at home against Dallas on October 21, 2026 and host Oklahoma City on October 31.
Dallas's Western Conference price
The Mavericks finished 26-56, twelfth in the West, and played no postseason games in 2026. The roster ESPN listed on October 17, 2026 carries Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving, with Dusty May as head coach and five players, among them Dereck Lively II and Max Christie, listed as day-to-day. Dallas went 1-3 in the preseason, closing with a 135-111 home loss to Atlanta on October 16, 2026, and both venues had the club at 2% that day, which means the market gives a 26-win club almost no route through three playoff series.
That 2% is a floor price for a West field of 15, and the consequence for the state's exposure is that Dallas adds almost nothing to it. The Mavericks' Kalshi contract is still one of the busiest Texas lines on the board, at about 152,000 contracts traded as of October 16, 2026, more than the Spurs' contract, which says the price is argued over rather than ignored. Dallas opens at Houston on October 21, hosts San Antonio on October 24 and hosts Oklahoma City on October 28, 2026.
The case against the Texas Western Conference read
The strongest case against the read is that a coin flip between two clubs undersells the rest of the conference. The Spurs needed six games against Minnesota and seven against Oklahoma City to get through the 2026 West, and the Thunder lost a Game 7 at home by eight; a reader who sees three or four West clubs close enough to win a series against either would hold both favorites lower and the chasing pack higher. On that view Kalshi's 33% on the Spurs on October 16, 2026 prices a repeat of a path that went the distance twice.
The counterread also runs through Houston. A club that won 52 games and beat the Thunder by 27 in an exhibition on October 15 was priced at 4% on both venues on October 16, 2026, below Minnesota, Denver and the Lakers, and a reader who thinks the first-round loss to the Lakers said less about the Rockets than the market has decided would spread the state's share across two clubs rather than one.
What changes the Texas Western Conference read
The read is wrong if the West stops being a two-club conference: if a third club finishes the regular season on April 11, 2027 ahead of either the Spurs or the Thunder, the market has priced the wrong shape. It also changes if Oklahoma City opens a clear gap on San Antonio in their three listed meetings. The dated tests:
• October 20, 2026: Oklahoma City at San Antonio, the opener and the first meeting since Game 7.
• October 21, 2026: Dallas at Houston, the opener for the state's other two clubs.
• October 23, 2026: Houston against San Antonio at the Moody Center in Austin, the first Texas game of the season.
• October 31, 2026: Oklahoma City at Houston, the Rockets' first regular-season look at a co-favorite.
• February 11 and March 14, 2027: San Antonio at Oklahoma City, the two later meetings, both on the Thunder's floor.
• April 11, 2027: the last day of the regular season, when the West seeding that sets the playoff path is fixed.
When the Texas Western Conference market resolves
The contract resolves on the club that wins the 2027 Western Conference finals. Kalshi's San Antonio contract pays Yes if San Antonio wins the Pro Basketball Western Conference Finals in the 2026-27 season; it names the league as its settlement source and lists an expected expiration of June 30, 2027. Polymarket resolves each club's contract to Yes for the team that wins the conference finals, to No as soon as it becomes impossible for that club to win under league rules, and to Other if the season is canceled, postponed past 11:59 PM Eastern on June 30, 2027, or ends with no winner declared in that time. For the three Texas clubs that means a contract can end weeks before the conference finals: each one settles No the night its club is knocked out, unless that club is the one left standing.
