Rockets' West Odds Climb With a 3-0 Start but Trail the Spurs as the NBA Signs Kalshi and Polymarket

Polymarket had Houston at 7% to win the West on October 26, 2026, up from 4% on both venues a week earlier, which still leaves the Rockets far behind a 1-2 Spurs team priced at 33% on the same venue.

The Rockets' Western Conference odds reached 7% on Polymarket on October 26, 2026, three points above where both venues had Houston on October 19, after a 3-0 start that already includes wins over Dallas and San Antonio. That still leaves Houston well behind the board's favorite, San Antonio, which Polymarket had at 33% to win the West on the same day despite a 1-2 start, so a week of Rockets wins has narrowed the gap without closing it.

The two exchanges quoting those prices became the league's commercial partners the same Monday. The NBA named Kalshi and Polymarket its preferred prediction market exchanges, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on information sharing, and widened its DraftKings agreement to cover DraftKings' prediction market product, according to the league's announcement and ESPN's David Purdum. In exchange for league marks, U.S. marketing rights and official data through Sportradar, the two exchanges accept limits on which NBA markets they list, a trading ban for league and team staff, and duties to share information on suspicious trading. "Protecting the integrity of the game is our top priority," said Scott Kaufman-Ross, who leads media distribution and partnerships for the league.

How the West board prices the three Texas clubs

Polymarket's 7% was the cheaper of the two quotes on Houston on October 26, 2026; Kalshi had the Rockets at 8%. On the same board Polymarket had the Spurs at 33% and Kalshi had them at 34%, while the Oklahoma City Thunder, who beat San Antonio 116-104 at Frost Bank Center on October 20, sat at 30% on Polymarket and 34% on Kalshi. That leaves San Antonio narrowly ahead on one venue and level on the other, which means the board treats the 2027 West as a two-club race in which the Spurs hold the smallest of edges.

Houston's climb is the one real move among the three Texas clubs: the Rockets went from 4% on both venues on October 19, 2026, before any of the three Texas clubs had played a regular-season game, to 7% on Polymarket and 8% on Kalshi on October 26. Three points is not a rerating of the club, but it does mean the market has added to Houston in the week the Rockets went unbeaten, while San Antonio's price barely moved from the 34% Kalshi showed on October 19.

Dallas is priced as an outsider on both venues. Polymarket had the Mavericks at 0.7% and Kalshi at 1% to win the West on October 26, 2026, down from 1% on both venues a week earlier, which puts the 1-2 Mavericks below a one-in-a-hundred chance on the cheaper venue.

The trading behind the Rockets line is heavier than the price suggests. By October 26, Kalshi had recorded 271,012 contracts traded on Houston to win the West against 109,087 on San Antonio, while the Polymarket pool on Houston held $7.1K against $18.7K on the Spurs. Kalshi counts contracts and Polymarket counts dollars, so the two figures are never added, but on Kalshi the Houston contract has drawn more than twice the activity of the favorite's, so the 7% is not resting on a quiet corner of the book. The live board sits on the Texas NBA Western Conference odds page.

What the title board says about Houston, San Antonio and Dallas

The 2027 championship board tells the same story at longer odds. On October 26, 2026, Kalshi and Polymarket both had the Spurs at 22% to win the title, the highest price on the board, and both had the Rockets at 5%, up from 3% on both venues on October 19. Oklahoma City was at 18% on Polymarket and 21% on Kalshi, and the Mavericks were at 1% on Kalshi and 0.4% on Polymarket. San Antonio's title price has not moved in the week, while Houston's has gained two points, which means the market added to the Rockets without taking anything from the Spurs.

Money on the title board leans the other way from the prices. Kalshi had recorded 2,380,347 contracts on the Rockets' championship contract and Polymarket's Houston pool held $1.30M, both larger than the Spurs' 1,459,000 contracts on Kalshi and $967.5K on Polymarket. More trading on Houston at a lower price than San Antonio's is consistent with a long-shot line that draws interest without persuading the market. The Texas NBA Finals odds page carries the full title board.

Three Texas clubs, three different starts

Houston's record is built partly on the other two Texas teams. The Rockets beat Dallas 128-110 at Toyota Center in Houston on October 21, beat San Antonio 114-110 on October 23 at the Moody Center in Austin, where the Spurs were the home team, and won 121-114 at Atlanta on October 24.

San Antonio's three games ran the other way. The Spurs lost 116-104 to Oklahoma City at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on October 20 and lost to Houston in Austin, then won 122-106 at American Airlines Center in Dallas on October 24. That 1-2 record sits beside a board-leading 33% on Polymarket, which means the West market is pricing a season that runs into 2027 rather than a week of results.

Dallas split its two road games and lost its only home game. The Mavericks lost in Houston on October 21, won 121-105 at Indiana on October 23, and lost to the Spurs at American Airlines Center on October 24.

Injuries shape the next few days for all three. ESPN's injury report on October 26, 2026 listed Marcus Smart (arm) and Steven Adams (right soleus strain) as out for Houston's home game against the Atlanta Hawks. For Dallas, Cooper Flagg (shoulder) was upgraded to probable for the game at Miami, while Dereck Lively II (foot), Naji Marshall (illness), Caleb Martin (thumb), Santi Aldama (knee) and Tarik Biberovic (heel) were listed as out. San Antonio's list carried Tobias Harris (calf), ruled out for the October 24 game at Dallas, and Jayden Quaintance, who has not yet been cleared for basketball activities.

What the league deal does not settle in Texas

The league's announcement does not mention Texas or any state law, and the Texas record on the two exchanges is thin. The site's legal status page, last reviewed on October 20, 2026, records no Texas statute, court filing, Attorney General action or regulator order naming Kalshi or Polymarket, and draws no conclusion about either venue in Texas. What the state's code does say is general: Texas Penal Code Section 47.02(a)(1) makes it an offense to make a bet on the partial or final result of a game or contest, and the section does not mention event contracts or federally regulated exchanges.

The closest Texas proceeding is a legislative study rather than a ruling. The 2026 interim charges issued by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick on March 27, 2026 direct the Senate Committee on State Affairs to study "the sudden inundation of prediction market gambling" and to make recommendations "to ensure the integrity of Texas elections and Texas sports." The committee took testimony on that charge on September 15, 2026, with Kalshi's head of enforcement among the witnesses, and recessed subject to the call of the chair. The NBA's integrity terms cover some of the same ground the charge names, but they are private contracts between a league and two exchanges, not a Texas rule.

Kaufman-Ross told ESPN the league will stay out of the jurisdiction fight now before the courts. "We'll let the courts decide," he said, and he added that the league's contracts with the two exchanges contemplate a scenario in which they can no longer offer sports markets.

What comes next for the Rockets, Spurs and Mavericks

The schedule tests the board quickly. Houston hosts the Hawks at Toyota Center at 7:30 p.m. Central on October 26, then plays at Milwaukee on October 28. Dallas plays at Miami's Kaseya Center at 6:30 p.m. Central on October 26 and hosts Oklahoma City at American Airlines Center on October 28. San Antonio hosts Sacramento at Frost Bank Center on October 27 and plays at Utah on October 28.

The next dated beats off the court are the league's and the state's. The NBA said it plans to expand its relationships with its other sports betting partners and others in the industry in the coming weeks, without giving a date, and the site's legal status page is next reviewed on November 3, 2026. On the court, the Thunder's visit to Dallas on October 28 is the next meeting between a Texas club and the team priced closest to San Antonio at the top of the West board.
