How it settlesSettled by Kalshi

One Yes-or-No contract in the form "If Houston is one of the Pro Football playoff qualifiers, then the market resolves to Yes." It resolves Yes if the Houston Texans are one of the seven AFC clubs in the 2026 NFL postseason field, as the AFC South champion or as a wild card, and No otherwise. The field is fixed when Week 18 is complete on January 9 and 10, 2027, before Wild Card Weekend opens on January 16, 2027; Kalshi lists an expected settlement of January 11, 2027 and a latest close of January 25, 2027, and ties in the standings are resolved by the NFL's tiebreaking procedures. Kalshi is the only exchange pricing the contract.

What moves it
  • Houston is 2-5 after the November 1 bye, with 165 points scored and 170 allowed; four of the five losses were by six points or fewer, and the 2-1 division record is the best in the AFC South.
  • Jacksonville leads the AFC South at 5-2, three games ahead; on November 2, 2026 Polymarket had Houston at 11% for the division against Kalshi's 35% for a playoff place, so most of the price is the wild card.
  • On November 2, 2026 Kalshi had the Texans at 9+ wins 55% and 10+ wins 28%; nine wins from 2-5 requires a 7-3 finish and ten wins an 8-2 finish.
  • After Week 8 the AFC wild-card places were held by Kansas City, Cincinnati and New England, with Cleveland at 5-3 and Las Vegas and Baltimore at 4-4 between them and Houston; five other AFC clubs had two wins or fewer.
  • In 2025 the AFC seventh seed went to the Chargers at 11-6, with Indianapolis and Baltimore out at 8-9.
  • The checkpoints are Cleveland on November 15, Baltimore on November 29, Jacksonville on December 20 and the field fixed after Week 18 on January 10, 2027.

The Texans Playoff Price Is a Bet That the AFC Leaves a Wild Card Open for a 2-5 Club

The Houston Texans playoff odds rest on the shape of the AFC more than on Houston's 2-5 record. The contract asks one question, whether the Texans are among the seven AFC clubs in the 2026 postseason field, and what the price is saying after the November 1 bye is that the conference's lower half is weak enough to leave a 2-5 club in the wild-card race. On November 2, 2026, Kalshi's board had Houston priced above Cleveland at 5-3 and above Las Vegas and Baltimore at 4-4, three clubs with better records. The Texans play their home games in Houston, Texas, and Kalshi is the only exchange pricing this contract.

What the Texans playoff price is really asking

Seven AFC clubs qualify: four division champions seeded one through four and three wild cards seeded five through seven, with only the top seed skipping Wild Card Weekend, under the 14-team format the NFL confirmed when it released the 2026 schedule on May 14. Houston can get in two ways. The division route runs through Jacksonville, which led the AFC South at 5-2 after Week 8, three games clear of Houston. The wild-card route runs through every AFC club that does not win its division.

As of November 2, 2026, Kalshi priced the Texans at 35% to make the playoffs, while the AFC South board had Houston at 11% on Polymarket and Jacksonville at 88% on Kalshi. The gap between those two numbers is the point of this page: most of what the playoff contract pays on is a wild card rather than a division title, so the price is a judgment about where the seventh seed's line falls and whether Houston can reach it from 2-5.

The Texans' own win-total ladder puts that judgment in wins. On November 2, 2026, Kalshi had 8+ wins at 74%, 9+ wins at 55%, 10+ wins at 28% and 11+ wins at 10%. A 35% playoff price sits between the nine-win and ten-win rungs and nearer the ten, which means the market treats a nine-win Houston season as often falling short of the AFC field and a ten-win season as usually enough. From 2-5, nine wins means a 7-3 finish over the last ten games and ten wins an 8-2 finish.

The price has barely moved through two results that pointed in opposite directions. On October 12, 2026, the day after a 26-3 win at Tennessee left Houston 1-4, Kalshi had the contract at 36%. A 34-31 win over Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium in London on October 18 and a 27-21 home loss to the New York Giants on October 25 later, Kalshi had it at 35% on November 2, 2026. The market took the win over the division leader and the loss to a club that went 4-13 in 2025 as cancelling out, and Kalshi had about 120,000 contracts traded on the line by that date.

The Texans playoff race in the AFC after eight weeks

Through the games of November 1, ESPN's seeding had Buffalo first at 6-1, Denver and Pittsburgh at 6-2 and Jacksonville at 5-2 as the four division leaders, with Kansas City and Cincinnati at 5-2 and New England at 5-3 in the wild-card places. Cleveland was eighth at 5-3, Las Vegas and Baltimore were 4-4, and Houston was eleventh at 2-5. Below Houston sat the Jets and the Colts at 2-6, Miami at 1-6, Tennessee at 1-7 and the Chargers at 0-7.

That lower group is why a 2-5 club still carries a real price. Five AFC clubs other than Houston have two wins or fewer, so the fight for the last wild-card place is among the clubs from 5-2 down to 4-4, and Houston is the one the market has chosen to keep in it. The Texans have been closer than their record: 165 points scored and 170 allowed, a margin of minus five, and four of the five losses by six points or fewer, to Buffalo, Indianapolis, Dallas and the Giants. Their 2-1 record inside the AFC South is the most division wins in it.

The 2025 season is the reference the price is measured against. Houston went 12-5 and took the fifth seed behind Jacksonville's 13-4 division title, and the AFC's seventh seed went to the Chargers at 11-6, with Indianapolis and Baltimore missing at 8-9. If the line sits at eleven wins again, that means a 9-1 finish, and Kalshi's 11+ wins rung, at 10% on November 2, 2026, is the market's price on it. A 35% playoff price says the market does not expect the line to be that high this year.

The Texans playoff schedule from here

Ten games remain, four in Houston and six away. The Texans open the second half at the winless Chargers in Inglewood, California on November 8, then visit Cleveland on November 15 before Indianapolis comes to Houston on Thursday, November 19 and Baltimore on November 29. December starts with a Sunday night game at Pittsburgh on the 6th and a trip to Washington in Landover, Maryland on the 13th; Jacksonville visits on December 20, and Houston plays at Philadelphia on Thursday, December 24. The last two are at Green Bay on Monday, January 4, 2027 and Tennessee at home in Week 18 on the weekend of January 9 and 10.

Two of those games are against the clubs Houston is chasing for a wild card. Cleveland and Baltimore both sit ahead of the Texans, and a win in either game takes one away from a direct rival while adding one to Houston's own count. Five of the ten are against clubs with two wins or fewer: the Chargers, Indianapolis, Washington, Philadelphia and Tennessee. The hard part of the schedule is three road games against clubs at 5-3 or better, at Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Green Bay, and the December 20 game against Jacksonville is the one chance left to close on the division.

The case against the Texans playoff read

The strongest case against the read is that the price is anchored to a club that no longer exists. Ten wins from 2-5 needs an 8-2 finish, a pace the Texans have not come near this season, and the three clubs between Houston and the seventh seed, Cleveland, Las Vegas and Baltimore, each have at least four wins already, with New England holding the place at 5-3. On that reading the 35% is a 2025 price laid over a 2026 record, and Kalshi's 28% on 10+ wins on November 2, 2026 is closer to the honest number for a club that has to win almost every week.

The case cuts the other way too, and a reader who holds it would recognize this version. Half the schedule left is against clubs with two wins or fewer, four of the five losses were close, and Houston has already beaten Jacksonville once. If the AFC's line falls to nine wins, a 7-3 finish is enough, and a club with a margin near zero has played closer to .500 football than its record says. On that view the market is right to rank Houston above three clubs with better records, and the price is, if anything, light.

What changes the Texans playoff read

The read is wrong if Houston loses ground to the AFC's middle before December or if the seventh seed's line moves to eleven wins. The checkpoints are dated.

• November 8, 2026: at the Chargers, an 0-7 club. A loss leaves Houston 2-6, and nine wins would then need a 7-2 finish.

• November 15 and November 29, 2026: at Cleveland and Baltimore in Houston, the two games against clubs directly ahead in the wild-card race.

• December 20, 2026: Jacksonville in Houston. A second win over the Jaguars keeps the division route open; a loss leaves the wild card as the only path.

• December 24, 2026: at Philadelphia, fifteen games played. At 8-7 or better the read holds into the last two weeks; at 6-9 it is dead.

• January 10, 2027: the AFC seventh seed's final record, the number the contract turns on.

When the Texans playoff market resolves

The contract resolves Yes if Houston is one of the seven AFC clubs in the 2026 postseason field and No otherwise, in Kalshi's words, "If Houston is one of the Pro Football playoff qualifiers, then the market resolves to Yes." The field is fixed when Week 18 is complete on the weekend of January 9 and 10, 2027, and Wild Card Weekend begins on January 16, 2027, so the answer is known before any playoff game is played; Kalshi lists an expected settlement of January 11, 2027. How Houston qualifies, as the AFC South champion or as a wild card of any seed, makes no difference to settlement, and ties in the standings are settled by the NFL's procedures rather than by the exchange.

The Houston Texans win total page carries the ladder this contract is read against. The Dallas Cowboys playoff page prices the same question for the other Texas club, which beat Houston 34-30 on October 4. The Texas Super Bowl page covers both clubs' title prices. The Houston Texans team page, the Texas sports board and the markets index carry the rest.
